Our Department is seeking to expand its pool of part-time faculty to teach Basic Skills Development, GED Preparation, or College Preparation.

  • Positions may be available at the following Lane locations: Main Campus, Downtown Campus, Cottage Grove, Florence, Springfield, Junction City and in corrections environments (Lane County Jail.)
  • More than one position may be needed for Fall, Winter or Spring terms. If you are selected for an interview you will receive an e-mail and/or a phone call from the department.

Required QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in education, emphasis in math, reading, writing and/or other basic skills; in developmental education; in special education for adults; in adult basic education; or equivalent.
  • Must include preparation in basic skills instruction and adult and alternative learning theories.
Required Experience:
Licensure or Certification Requirements
  • CASAS certification and Professional development in the Oregon Adult College and Career Standards professional upon employment within one (1) year of hire.

Preferred QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Education
  • Master's degree in education, emphasis in math, reading, writing and/or other basic skills; in developmental education; in special education for adults; in adult basic education; or equivalent.
  • Completion of Oregon Adult College & Career Readiness Standards (OACCRS) Orientation and subsequent training modules.
  • Completion of similar Adult CCR standards training from a different U.S. state.
Preferred Experience
  • Recent experience (within the last 5 years) teaching adults in a community college setting.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: 1) teaching adults or youth with learning disabilities, 2) family or workplace literacy.
  • Experience working with multi-level learners.
  • Experience articulating to and/or coordinating with work or educational settings, community agencies, or programs related to student advancement and success.

Position Purpose:
To teach Adult Basic Education, Pre-GED and GED preparation, and College Preparation classes in reading, writing, mathematics, and digital literacy skills for adult students, age 16 and older, to help them meet their educational and career goals.
Essential Functions:
Instruction

  • Provide instruction in varied learning environments, including but not limited to in-person, online, and hybrid formats
  • Maintain currency in innovative teaching pedagogies, instructional technologies, and relevant discipline(s)
  • Incorporate current technology, appropriate software applications, appropriate pedagogies, and best practices in instructional delivery
  • Provide students with continuous, timely, and relevant feedback regarding their performance in coursework; including prompt grading of all coursework and assessments
  • Confer with students on course materials, coursework, and assessments
  • Evaluate student achievement of clearly identified learning outcomes, consistent with core ability outcomes
  • Commit to creating an educational environment that values diversity, promotes equity, and includes multilingualism

Student Support Services

Division Functions

  • Instruction in pre-GED and GED subject areas (Assignments may include instruction in science and social studies, reading and writing, and/or mathematics)
  • Courses assigned may be taught in a variety of delivery modalities including, but not limited to, online, hybrid Zoom, hybrid in-person, in-person, live streaming, and hyflex and ongoing professional development in technology-assisted delivery is expected
  • Plan lessons and implement curriculum appropriate to the needs of adult learners and according to Oregon Adult College and Career Readiness Standards (OACCRS)
  • Co-develop curriculum and align instruction with the criteria and skill levels established by the department, the federal government, the state of Oregon, the CASAS assessment system, GED content areas, bridge courses to post-secondary education, including career pathways
  • Implement a variety of delivery methods including: directed study, distance learning, technology, tutoring, and other strategies of sufficient intensity to help learners make learning gains and meet their educational goals
  • Adapt options and strategies for managing learning objectives within a multi-level or multi-subject class
  • Provide intake, orientation, placement and progress assessment for students
  • Complete and maintain appropriate student registration, attendance, and assessment records, and ensure the timely submission of reports
  • Help students access support services, college and employment resources
  • Continually evaluate and assess student achievement, of clearly identified learning outcomes through appropriate assessment tools/methods and actively utilize results to inform improvements at a program and course level
  • Create course content, develop and revise course content and materials, including LMS classroom shells
  • Teach and develop all class syllabi and course materials, in a form that can be directly delivered to, and used by, students
  • Confer with students on course materials
  • Use the Learning Management System (LMS) to publish and update content, post grades and promote student engagement amongst students with course content
  • Use multiple modes of communication tools including online publishing, audio and video tools
  • Use current best practices and pedagogies for teaching online including the application of online course quality frameworks for clearly providing course learning objectives to students, while consistently setting clear weekly and term-long expectations for work and assessment
  • Monitor student progress and provide reasonable coaching and assistance to struggling students toward success
  • Review and grade all work submitted by students and provide timely and substantive feedback
  • Provide timely responses to student inquiries
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students

Supervision Statement:
Faculty report to a Division Dean and perform instruction-related duties and responsibilities in a timely manner and in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures of the college: . Work may be overseen by a lead faculty member.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that includes office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work safely.
