JOB SUMMARY: We are seeking a highly skilled Data Engineer to join our team, focusing on creating and maintaining scalable data pipelines and modernizing our data architecture. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development and extensive experience with cloud services, particularly Microsoft Azure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Safety

  • Actively cares, promotes, manages, and advocates safety at Western States. As a leader and team member in the organization, it is critical to ensure all employees, vendors, and clients have a safe work environment while adhering to all applicable safety policies, procedures and standards.
  • Maintains clean/clutter free company vehicle and work areas to ensure safe environments for all WSECO employees.
  • Adhering to required personal protective equipment (PPE) as identified in safety policy.

Job Duties

  • Data Pipeline Management: Designs and implements scalable data pipelines from on-premises SQL servers to Azure, ensuring continuous, reliable data flow to support both analytical and operational needs.
  • Collaboration: Works closely with the Business Intelligence (BI) and software development teams to understand their data requirements. Integrate modern, robust data solutions to enhance data accessibility and governance.
  • Architecture Modernization: Leads initiatives to modernize our data architecture, focusing on scalability, efficiency, and seamless integration of new data sources.
  • Data Governance: Develops and enforces data governance policies and practices, maintaining data integrity, quality, and compliance across all data platforms.
  • Data Transparency: Advocates for data transparency within the organization by implementing tools and processes that facilitate easy access to data for decision-making and analysis.
  • System Optimization: Monitors and optimizes data systems to ensure performance, reliability, and security. Address any issues that may impact data processes promptly.
  • Industry Trends: Stays updated on the latest trends in data engineering and cloud services, particularly Azure, to continuously enhance our data infrastructure.
  • Documentation: Documents all data architecture designs and changes to ensure clear communication and understanding across both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Technical Leadership: Provides technical leadership and guidance in the development of data-intensive applications, collaborating closely with the development team to integrate data solutions.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of data storage techniques and cloud strategies.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C#, .NET.
  • Proficiency with SQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Azure, including Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, and other Azure services.
  • Proven track record in designing and deploying scalable data architectures.
  • Experience in implementing data governance policies and practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with the ability to analyze complex data sets and derive actionable insights.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality results.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven track record of driving data-driven decision-making and implementing data analytics solutions to achieve business objectives.
  • Knowledge of data governance, data security, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others to include customers, vendors, employees and the public.
  • Ability to keep current with emerging trends, tools, and technologies in the software industry.
  • Consistent attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in data science, Statistics, Computer Science, equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in advanced cloud data engineering.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in SQL database management.
  • Minimum of one year using Agile methodologies to manage a portfolio of products or projects is preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience with Microsoft AX or D365 ERP software is preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write) in English.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Ability to stand for long periods of time along with walking, sitting, repetitive climbing stairs, reaching (including but not limited to above-shoulder reaching), repetitive bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures and environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. in accordance with Western States' Lifting Policy to include amount and approach.
