Pay Rate: $81,735 - $134,433


Project Geotechnical Engineer


Delve Underground has an immediate opening for a Geotechnical Engineer with 6-10 years of relevant experience to join our Portland team delivering tunnels, underground facilities, and water infrastructure projects. This position offers a great opportunity for a motivated, detail oriented, team-centric candidate to work on diverse jobs, from local jobs to transit, water and wastewater mega-projects around the world. Preferably, the candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas: geotechnical engineering, excavation support design, tunneling, or trenchless technologies. Our geotechnical and structural staff work closely with one another to deliver great solutions to our clients in underground projects.


Responsibilities:

  • Perform geotechnical engineering analyses and calculations for tunnels, shafts, foundations, retaining structures, landslide and slope stability, ground improvement, liquefaction, lateral spreading and seismic evaluations.
  • Evaluate and characterize soil and rock ground conditions for engineering design
  • Preparation of technical reports and other documents
  • Development of construction drawings and specifications for underground infrastructure
  • Management of small projects and tasks on larger projects
  • Oversight of staff engineers and geologists on field assignments and geotechnical analyses
  • Occasional work in the field performing inspections of construction activities or site investigations.
  • Work as integral member of a team on complex, multi-discipline projects.
  • Demonstrate good writing and communication skills to work with internal staff and clients.

Qualifications:

  • MS in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering
  • Ability to manage a number of concurrent assignments and priorities, and supervise junior staff on project tasks.
  • Strong analytical and technical communication skills.
  • Familiarity with seismic guidelines and codes in ASCE.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical analysis software including Rocscience suite, Shoring Suite or similar programs;
  • Familiarity with FLAC, ABAQUS, LS-Dyna, DEEPSOIL or Plaxis considered an asset.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration in Oregon or be able to obtain within 1 year from the date of hire.
  • Willingness to travel for short-term assignments to remote locations.
  • Driver's license required
