Position Summary:

The Dry End Supervisor will manage the day-to-day operations of the boiler, kilns, planer, and shipping departments while promoting safety, quality, productivity, recovery, and employee development.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead a safe working environment:
    • train employees in safe equipment operation;
    • motivate employees to lead the operation to superior safety performance;
    • engage in continuing education and improvement to processes and work procedures; and
    • lead safety behavior by example.
  • Manage and direct flow of lumber through dry end operation to include the boiler, kilns, planer, and shipping.
  • Research and implement improved operational methods to improve grade recovery and costs.
  • Promote team communication between departments.
  • Process employee time and attendance reports.
  • Support operations in key variable tracking and data analysis.
  • Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
  • On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor dry end employees to include the boiler, kilns, planer, and shipping.
    • Responsible for performance management of direct reports in accordance with company values, objectives, and policies.
    • Provide mentoring, coaching, training, and support consistent with developing and sustaining a high-performing and accountable team.

  • Strong reasoning and problem-solving skills; ability to think creatively and find innovative solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Diverse background in the sawmill industry, including experience in an operation with a planer, kilns, and a boiler.

Environmental Conditions:

May be exposed to dust, noise, trip hazards, and variable weather and temperatures.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Positions may require additional PPE at specific times. Examples of PPE which may be required include high visibility garments, hand protection, eye protection, hearing protection, a hard hat, foot protection, and a face shield.
