Position Information

The Lane Dental Clinic and Lane Community College are seeking Part-time Dental Assistant. Staff may work up to 40 hours a week indefinitely.

  • The goal of the Lane Dental Clinic is to provide the public with patient-centered, comprehensive, preventive, and therapeutic dental care, while at the same time providing effective, practical, educational experiences for dental assisting students.

  • Clinic staff provide teeth cleaning and restorative services with affordable prices to community members, students and those in need with dental expertise, compassion and kindness.

Position Purpose:
To provide dental services and training to students and community members in a training clinic.
Essential Functions:
  • Promote a positive working environment that is team oriented and works in a busy, fully-functioning teaching dental clinic, while also providing a safe, positive environment for patients.
  • Perform opening and closing daily clinic procedures. Manage daily sterilization for restorative instruments under the Direction of the Dental Clinic Coordinator, liaison with College Faculty to facilitate student instrument sterilization.
  • Demonstrates proper infection control procedures in setting up and cleaning up procedures.
  • Manage treatment area.
  • Troubleshoot instrument functions.
  • Liaison with Dentists for chart note completion, manages preventive patient care.
  • Conduct chairside assisting.
  • Set up for scheduled procedures and clean dental units for timely turnover.
  • Pass instruments safely, accurately and efficiently.
  • Keeps field clear of debris and retracts oral tissues effectively and comfortably.
  • Accomplishes all intra-operative procedures within standard infection control protocols.
  • Assist in routine general dental procedures.
  • Assist in specialized dental procedures, such as oral surgery, endodontics, and periodontics.
  • Dental electronic images are characterized by diagnostic quality, accurately oriented and exposed Dental imaging safety techniques are utilized, and retakes are minimized.
  • Imaging request to be accomplished within the desired timeframe.
  • Instruct patients how to practice good oral hygiene, make recommendations as to appropriate products or devices for patient's home care, and provide other oral care education.

Dental Laboratory Functions
  • Pours impressions and prepares study models.
  • Makes denture impression trays and prepares bite rims.
  • Prepares dental medicaments and impression materials per manufacturer's instructions.
  • Performs other dental laboratory functions as time and skill level allows.
  • Maintain a clean and organized dental lab space along with functional equipment.
  • Respond to additional assignments by Clinic Coordinator or Primary Dental Assistant.
  • Problem solve and manage sensitive information with appropriate awareness of FERPA standards; maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the privacy needs of students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is supervised by The Dean of Health Professions.

Clinic work will be led by Primary Dental Assistants and Certified Clinic Dentists.
The Clinic Coordinator leads the work of the clinic, sets schedules, oversees daily operations, workflow, establishes procedures, gives input for clinic functions and develops organizational procedures.
Physical Demands/Working Environment:
This position works indoors and is exposed to usual office working conditions that include office noises and interruptions, such as printers, telephones, and visitors. This position requires that an employee is able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; perform cognitive and psychometric work for more than six (6) hours a day. This position may work with individuals who may be hostile or abusive. Work may require transporting materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work safely.
