Job purpose

The Purchasing Agent I (PA) is responsible for assisting in sourcing equipment, goods and services and managing vendors; be able to perform strategic procurement activities across multiple categories of spend, search for better deals and find more profitable suppliers.

Duties and responsibilities

Process Requests for procurement/services

  • Process Daily orders (receive order via various channels of communication to include email, text, verbal & written, oversee process until completion)
  • Manage supply chain failures (lack of stock, vendor/delivery error, prioritize re-stocks)
  • Process tool orders (work in conjunction with warehouse to acquire tools needed for a particular task/job)
  • Rental requests (received from field/warehouse and process through the appropriate vendor)

Utilize Dynalectric distribution process/strategy

  • Job Quotes (job specific, leverage vendor relationships for best pricing/service)
  • Analyze daily spend to determine best value
  • Vendor added services (i.e.; warehousing, vendor managed inventory (VMI), kitting/distribution)
  • Electronic data transfer (vendors ability to communicate data of specific order back to us through PowerPurchase)

Interdepartmental logistics

  • Communication (work with inter-office staff with specific office/job related needs)
  • Warehouse, Prefab, Safety (work hand-in-hand to fill various requests)
  • Accounting (rectify invoicing issues)

Build & maintain effective working relationships with field

  • Project Managers, field supervision, Apprentice & Material handlers (trust/respect in order to maximize lines of communication)

Qualifications

  • BSc/BA in in supply chain management, logistics, business administration or equivalent work experience
  • 1 year electrical materials distribution experience preferred
  • Good knowledge of MS Office & Bluebeam
  • Outstanding written & verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment

Working conditions

Mostly office-based. Typical working hours for the PA may vary. Generally Monday - Friday during normal business hours, but when deadlines approach they may be required to work much longer hours, including some weekend work. Some travel may be required for training/continuing education.

Physical requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Purchasing Agent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The PA is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
