Company Overview

Our mission is to provide a new generation of heirlooms that inspire people to create unique, meaningful spaces.

Who We Are

Together we are dedicated to the preservation of American manufacturing, thoughtful living and purposeful design. Schoolhouse was founded by Pacific Northwest native Brian Faherty in 2003 following his discovery of a long-lost collection of cast-iron glass shade molds.

As a lighting and lifestyle goods manufacturer, we’re built on handcrafted pieces that marry the domestic with the industrial. Our iconic, heirloom- quality collections are designed to transcend time and trend.

Our Inspiration

We have an innate affection for pieces with a past and believe that something worth owning now is worth owning forever. By drawing on classic American designs with timeless appeal and iconic silhouettes, we seek to reimagine the familiar. At Schoolhouse we believe in the enduring relationship between American craft and mass production, and the rich heritage of both.

Our Factory

Inside a 109-year-old brick factory building in Portland, Oregon, our obsession with quality and design has compelled us to produce modern heirlooms the old-fashioned way. Here we manufacture our lighting and other wares; we design our collections; we ship our finished creations and most importantly, we dream of what’s next while working collectively to create something bigger than ourselves. Many hands work in countless ways to bring each of our products to life, all under one roof.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

As an American manufacturer and a member of the design community, we must unequivocally state our support for, and ongoing commitment to DEI (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion). We are holding ourselves accountable for long-term internal change in the form of a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee.

Our inspiration has always been the home and helping people create spaces that reflect their values. Our values start with equity for all. We plan to keep this page updated to hold ourselves accountable in our support for systemic change. As a brand and as individuals, we’re committed to all things DEI.
