Job Description

ENSCO Inc., located in Springfield Virginia, is looking for a leader with a strong background in computer vision and signal processing to join our product engineering team in the ATE Division. ENSCO is the railroad industry's source for state-of-the-art track inspection systems, track inspection services, rail vehicle evaluation testing, rail asset management, and rail security and safety. An engineering leader with experience leading a highly capable team to innovate and apply modern state of the art techniques to provide practical solutions to real world challenges is the ideal candidate to join our team.

ENSCO brings together decades of experience and the latest technologies, including laser scanners, real-time signal processing, computer vision, machine learning, GPS/inertial navigation, wireless communication, and Web data management to solve the needs of the railroad community for accurate inspection of their infrastructure. If you join, you would be leading and working with a talented team within ENSCO to develop and implement a line of track inspection products that measure and monitor track conditions in real time from moving rail vehicles to improve railroad safety. Key customers include the Federal Railroad Administration, U.S. commercial railroads, transit systems, international railroads and transit agencies, and government agencies abroad.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the Machine Vision and Signal Processing group to design and deliver high performance, world class technical solutions.
  • Lead innovation into new computer vision, machine learning, AI, and signal processing techniques and ensure the group stays on the forefront of technology.
  • Lead development of solutions for incorporating sensors into new inspection technologies.
  • Collaborate with talented staff in the Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Service, and Business Development groups on an array of functions including R&D, product design, business proposals, project implementation and post-delivery support.
  • Ensure the Machine Vision and Signal Processing group designs are well documented, modular, and utilize standard components where feasible and that the group's work is completed on time and within budget with minimal errors.
  • Author technical documents and presentations. Present this information at all levels of the organization, internally at ENSCO and to our customers.

Qualifications Required (Skills)

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • 7 years' relevant work experience.
  • Experience applying current methods (DNN, Kalman filtering, FIR, IIR, etc.) to solve engineering problems.
  • Strong understanding of signal processing techniques.
  • Strong understanding of computer vision techniques.
  • Strong understanding of machine learning techniques.
  • Experience developing software applications for large scale computation.
  • Experience with algorithm prototyping and system modeling with C++, MATLAB, Python, or other software.
  • Experience performing research, design, and analysis functions.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Ability to climb a ladder 15 feet high to gain access to railway cars.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
Wearing safety equipment (hardhat, steel-toe boots, protective vest, and protective eyeglasses) when working on railroad properties is also a requirement. ENSCO will provide all necessary safety equipment.

Qualifications Desired

  • Master's or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related fields.
  • 3 years' experience managing other people.
  • Experience developing machine vision or signal processing algorithms and software for railway or transportation related inspection applications.
  • Experience in digital signal processing and filter design.
  • Experience with image processing, object segmentation, feature extraction, and machine learning.
  • Solid knowledge of computer vision techniques.
  • Competent knowledge and experience in applying and utilizing open source libraries and tools.
  • Competent knowledge and experience in distributed and scalable software design and development.
  • Experience with vision algorithm development and implementation on a GPU.
